“As a Pediatrician, I am a trustworthy resource for parents and children, someone whom they can ask any question and get straightforward, non-judgmental answers. The family/doctor relationship is a partnership in which I teach parents and kids as much as I learn from them. My focus is on the healthy basics of good nutrition, regular exercise and the importance of family and community connections as the path to lifelong health. The best part of my job is to meet a baby (or child or teen) and watch them grow, learn, and apply these principles.”
About me
Dr. Ulmer always knew she wanted to be a doctor, but initially thought that caring for elderly people would be her focus. During medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago, Dr. Ulmer realized that children and all those caring for them were always the most interesting people in the room. She decided to become a Pediatrician and completed her residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She started her career at a small Pediatrics practice in Southern California. After her daughter was born, her family moved to Oregon where she joined a multispecialty group and built a practice over many years.
Raised in Wisconsin, her mom’s large garden supplied delicious fruits and vegetables and started a lifelong interest in good food. She attended Williams College in Massachusetts where she majored in chemistry. She rowed crew her junior and senior years and discovered that regular physical exercise was great mental health therapy and a lot of fun.
Dr. Ulmer is excited to join Pediatric Associates of the Northwest, where the focus is exclusively on children and their needs. She is board-certified and practices at the Beaverton office.
Interests
Dr. Ulmer loves the Northwest because it is so easy to enjoy her favorite activities: eating and cooking; hiking, biking and swimming; reading and knitting. The farmers markets and restaurants around Beaverton and Portland supply such wonderful food year-round. She loves to try new recipes, eat at local restaurants, and make jam for family and friends. Dr. Ulmer and her husband enjoy hiking and exploring locally in Oregon and Washington, while planning the next excursion further afield.
She is a board member of Tualatin Hills Park Foundation to advocate for and raise funds to improve access to programs at Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District that make exercise possible for everyone. Local bookstores and Washington County Public Library supply her reading habit and the many great yarn stores all over the Metro area inspire her knitting projects.
Family
Dr. Ulmer is married and is the proud momma of two adults, an older daughter and younger son. They taught her the practical part of child development and the importance of being flexible with plans as a working parent. Her extended and nuclear families are all over the US and Brazil, providing many reasons for travel.
